Prototype C mini mock 1: Part A sample

Five original Part A (General Intelligence and Reasoning) questions, one of each type: blood relations, direction sense, coding-decoding, series and syllogism. Exam marking (+2 for a right answer, −0.50 for a wrong one) and the official pace: Part A has 25 questions in 15 minutes, so 5 questions get 3 minutes. Every answer and every wrong option was checked by a program.

Before you start

  • One timer for the whole test: 3 min.
  • The clock runs from the moment you start, even if you leave.
  • Right answer +2, wrong answer −0.5. Unanswered questions cost nothing.
  • Questions come in Hindi and English. Switch any question with “Language”; questions in English only cannot switch.
  • Only saved answers count. “Save & Next” saves the answer on screen, and so does “Mark for Review & Next”: a flagged answer still counts.
  • At zero the test submits itself.

5 questions in 3 minutes, the pace of Part A (25 questions in 15 minutes). +2 for a right answer, −0.50 for a wrong one, 0 for a question left blank. Read the question line first.

Sample questions with solutions

A few questions like the ones in this test, with the right answer and why.

    • Maternal grandfatherRight answer
    • Paternal grandfather
    • Father
    • Cannot be determined
    Explanation

Start at Arav. Arav's mother is Sneha, and Sneha's father is Rahul. The mother's father is the maternal grandfather (नाना).
Check: two links up, and the first link is the mother, so it is the mother's side.

Vikram is Mohan's brother. Mohan is Isha's father. How is Vikram related to Isha?
    • Maternal uncle
    • Paternal uncleRight answer

    • Brother's child

    • Granddaughter (son's daughter)
    • Daughter
    • Granddaughter (daughter's daughter)Right answer
    • Great-granddaughter (daughter's line)
    Explanation

Start at Gopal. Gopal's daughter is Kamini, and Kamini's daughter is Ritu: two generations down through a daughter. In Hindi, a daughter's daughter is नातिन (a son's daughter would be पोती).

  4. Question 4
Neeraj is Pallavi's son. Pallavi is Tarun's sister. Which of these is NOT certain?
    • Pallavi is Neeraj's mother
    • Tarun is Neeraj's maternal uncleRight answer
    • Neeraj is a boy
    • Neeraj is the son of Tarun's sister
    Explanation

"Sister" describes Pallavi, not Tarun, so Tarun's gender is not given. Tarun is the brother or the sister of Neeraj's mother: मामा or मौसी. "Maternal uncle" is not certain.
The other three follow from the words "son" and "sister".

  5. Question 5
Dev is Leela's brother. Leela is Sameer's mother. Sameer is a boy. How is Sameer related to Dev?
