Current Affairs: Sports, Awards and Important Days

Lesson 8 of 81 minFree

Why static-linked current affairs?

RRB NTPC often asks current-affairs questions that connect to a static fact — the award's field, the trophy's sport, or a day's theme organiser. Learn the static base first.

Awards

  • Bharat Ratna – highest civilian award (first given 1954).
  • Padma Vibhushan > Padma Bhushan > Padma Shri.
  • Dadasaheb Phalke Award – cinema.
  • Jnanpith Award – literature.
  • Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna – highest sports award.

Sports trophies

Durand Cup – football; Ranji Trophy – cricket; Thomas Cup – badminton (men); Davis Cup – tennis (men).

Important days

National Sports Day – 29 August (Dhyan Chand's birthday). World Environment Day – 5 June. National Science Day – 28 February (Raman Effect). Railway Week – April (first train 16 April 1853, Bori Bunder–Thane).

Exam tips

  1. Maintain a monthly one-page sheet: awards, sports, appointments, days.
  2. Revise the last 6–8 months before the exam.

Analogy

Current affairs is like a clothes line. The static facts are the rope; each news item is a shirt you peg onto it. Without the rope, the shirts fall to the ground and are forgotten. Tie the rope first, then keep pegging.
