How to Prepare Current Affairs for RRB NTPC

Lesson 7 of 82 minFree

Current Affairs approach

Current affairs is the most unpredictable part of General Awareness, but a fixed routine makes it manageable. RRB NTPC usually asks about events from roughly the last 6–12 months before the exam.

What to cover

  • National: government schemes, new policies, appointments to key posts, census/reports
  • International: summits, organisations (UN, WHO, BRICS, G20), major agreements
  • Economy: RBI announcements, budget highlights, GDP and inflation terms
  • Sports: major tournaments, host cities, winners and records
  • Awards and honours: Bharat Ratna, Padma awards, Nobel, sports awards
  • Science and defence: ISRO missions, new technology, military exercises
  • Railways: new trains, projects and initiatives of Indian Railways

Reliable sources

  • PIB (Press Information Bureau) for official government releases
  • One standard national newspaper (daily)
  • A monthly current affairs compilation for revision
  • Official websites of ministries and Indian Railways

A simple routine

  1. Daily (20–30 min): read headlines and note only exam-worthy facts.
  2. Weekly: revise your notes and attempt a short quiz.
  3. Monthly: make a one-page summary per month.
  4. Last 2 months before exam: revise all monthly summaries twice.

Exam tips (RRB NTPC)

  • Write facts in short form: who – what – where – when.
  • Link news to static GK (e.g. a new national park → its state and river).
  • Do not memorise opinions or editorials; focus on facts.

Analogy

Think of current affairs like topping up your mobile data every day. If you recharge a little daily, you never run out; if you wait until the last day, one huge recharge is expensive and stressful.

Reading 20 minutes of news daily is your small recharge. Your weekly revision is like checking your balance, and the monthly one-page summary is the bill that shows everything you used. By exam day your "data pack" of facts is full — without a last-minute panic.
